celebrating 60 years of dance

Ballet Classes

ages 7+

Classical ballet encourages muscle development, flexibility, good posture, balance, discipline and strength.

Classical ballet is the foundation of many dance genres. For students who choose the ballet path, they often become the most versatile and technically proficient.

We always tell our students that ballet is like the alphabet of dance – you need to learn your letters before you can learn to read and write. Peninsula School of Dance uses the Cecchetti Syllabus to teach our classical ballet program

The Cecchetti syllabus is an internationally recognised system of training which gradually builds sound ballet technique while encouraging a love of music and dance. The syllabus is designed to suit the young beginner right through to the pre-professional and professional dancer.

BALLET EXAMS

At Peninsula School of Dance, we believe that Cecchetti ballet exams are about so much more than achieving a certificate or badge. Our focus on exams is grounded in the journey students undertake as they work towards a goal, building confidence, resilience, and a love for the discipline of dance.

Cecchetti ballet exams encourage students to push themselves to refine their technique, musicality, and artistry. This journey allows each dancer to set personal goals, overcome nerves, and step outside their comfort zone—growing both in their dance and in themselves. Every year, our students face these challenges head-on, and each year, they emerge with a tremendous sense of accomplishment, satisfaction, and pride. We see how conquering a fear or mastering a new skill transforms our dancers, giving them a powerful boost to their self-confidence that resonates beyond the studio.

The Cecchetti method itself is uniquely structured to develop strong, versatile, and expressive dancers. Through carefully sequenced levels, Cecchetti exams help dancers build a strong foundation of technique that progresses naturally, supporting safe practice and artistic growth. Each level is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the body’s movements, musicality, and the art of ballet, nurturing not only dance skills but also an appreciation for discipline, dedication, and perseverance.

In keeping with our mission at Peninsula School of Dance, we see the Cecchetti exam process as a vital tool in nurturing lifelong confidence, resilience, and creativity. The structure of the exams offers students a clear pathway to measure their progress and receive constructive feedback, which empowers them to understand their strengths and areas for growth. We value this structured progress as it supports students in building a skill set that is not only beneficial in dance but also invaluable in life—whether they continue in the arts or pursue other paths.

Ultimately, Cecchetti ballet exams are a transformative experience. They offer our students a safe space to explore, challenge themselves, and achieve something meaningful. At Peninsula School of Dance, we are proud to guide students on this journey, helping them reach their potential and celebrate every step of their hard-earned progress.
