Liza is a seasoned music educator and director with a rich background in both classical guitar performance and music education. Her journey began at the Victorian College of the Arts, where she immersed herself in the art of Classical Guitar under the guidance of Peter Lynch. In 1991, Liza proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance, marking the foundation of her musical career.
Eager to share her passion for music with others, Liza furthered her education by completing a Graduate Diploma of Education at Melbourne University in the following year. Her teaching career took off in Tasmania, where she not only engaged with students but also conducted the City of Burnie Orchestra, showcasing her multifaceted musical talents.
Over the years, Liza’s commitment to music education has taken various forms. Initially, she dedicated herself to secondary music teaching, even guiding year 12 music students in their musical journey. Recognizing the importance of early childhood and primary music education, Liza underwent retraining and obtained qualifications in Kodaly and Orff methods.
Liza’s impact on the musical landscape extends beyond the classroom. With three decades of experience, she has directed a multitude of instrumental ensembles, bands, orchestras, and choirs. Her directorial prowess shines particularly in musical productions, including notable works such as “Camelot” and “West Side Story.”
Driven by a profound interest in children’s choral music, Liza believes in the transformative power of singing for young people. She sees it as a gateway for individuals to embrace their musical potential and engage with the joy of learning. Throughout her career, Liza has left her mark on various schools, notably contributing to the music programs at Rosebud Secondary College, Peninsula Grammar, Balcombe Grammar, Naranga Special School, and presently at Our Lady of Fatima Primary School on the Mornington Peninsula.
Liza’s dedication to nurturing the musical talents of the next generation, combined with her diverse experience and expertise, makes her an invaluable figure in the realm of music education.
