At Peninsula School of Dance we provide an environment that nurtures, challenges and inspires kids to be the best they can be.
Dance is a visual, physical and emotional art form from which individuals derive many benefits including
- Improved posture and deportment
- Body awareness and coordination
- Confidence, persistence and resilience
- Improved emotional and physical health
Many studies have demonstrated the positive impact an activity like dance can have on a young person’s academic performance and personal feelings of self-concept and life satisfaction. At Peninsula School of Dance we pride ourselves on providing an environment that helps kids to stay busy, and boosts their emotional engagement and self-worth.
A Rich History…
The School has serviced the Mornington Peninsula for over 50 years and produced some of Australia’s finest dancers, teachers and choreographers. Formerly Rosebud Ballet School (Est 1961), the faculty at Peninsula School of Dance believes that nothing is more joyful than watching a young child explore the world of music and movement with pure delight and carefree abandon. When this is nurtured in a loving environment by highly qualified staff, students will go on to derive many benefits from learning the art of dance.
For 40 years, across two generations and six students PSD has been our family’s dance school of choice” – A. Gould (Ex-student & Mum)
The Joy of Dance…
Dance is one of the most versatile art forms. It offers an outlet of creative expression, builds confidence, encourages self-discipline and provides an array of physical benefits such as improved fitness, posture and deportment. Our young students are particularly fortunate to be able to benefit from having a pianist providing beautiful and stimulating music in classes.
“Each concert that I watched was so impressive in choreography, staging, costumes, and mostly that gorgeous spirit that was in each dancer’s eyes………… we walked away knowing that Peninsula School of Dance is indeed a beautiful environment for our daughters to growing up in. Thank you for keeping your standards high so that so many children can benefit.” – J. Russo (Mum)
A Proud History
The Rosebud Ballet School was founded in 1961 by Miss Sandra Allan and stands today as one of the longest established Cecchetti schools in Victoria. The school commenced with 23 students and a Pianist at the Rosebud Memorial Hall and is still thriving in the same venue today.
Miss Allan’s tireless commitment to dance has inspired many students to progress onto careers in all aspects of the arts. Former students have progressed onto the Australian Ballet School and Company, Victorian College of the Arts, Queensland Ballet Company and Tasdance, and become Artistic Directors of regional companies, performed professionally in stage shows in both Australia and overseas and have become recognised professional teachers and noted choreographers.
The school’s students have performed in the Australian Ballet’s “Nutcracker” and the Queensland Ballet Company’s “Sleeping Beauty” and “Coppelia”, and have been Associates of the Australian Ballet School, as well as Junior and Senior Cecchetti Scholars, Victorian Scholarship and Choreographic Competition winners.
One of the long standing traditions of the school is the annual choreographic competition. This event provides students with the wonderful opportunity to create their own work as an individual or for a group of their class mates. Anything from classical solos, demi character pieces, duos and groups performing hip hop, the Annual Choreographic Competition is truly delightful for students and parents alike.

The Peninsula School of Dance is privileged to still have it’s founder Miss Sandra Allan as part of the teaching staff and students will continue to benefit from her passion and commitment teaching the art of dance.

She loves dancing and performing thanks to the wonderful Miss Mel, Miss Carla and the rest of the teachers and students!! Highly recommended!!!!!Katherine Twigg

We absolutely love PSD, this is my daughter’s happy place. There is no place we would rather be! Genuinely every time we step foot in the door at studio or at a PSD function it truly feels like we are home. I love that we moved from the other side of the world and have such a big ‘family’. You provide so much more than dance lessons for our family. Thank you xLynsey Richmond
As a former student of Peninsula School of Dance I can only commend this dance school on everything it has to offer. PSD is such a fun and friendly environment, with only the best facilities and teachers on the peninsula.
I attended the dance school through my primary and secondary education, and over the years they were a major influence on my life, they guided me to be the strong, confident, dedicated and passionate person I am today. Through attending the dance school I discovered my love and passion for dance, the Principle, Melanie Gard and other experienced staff Carla Colson and Sandra Allan, encouraged me to pursue my dream, goal and interest in dance through further studies at university, of which i am now completing my final year.
The teachers at PSD put 100% compassion towards all of their students, they want them to only have positive, fun dance experiences, in my experience with PSD, not only have i completed dance exams, competitions, concerts, and other great rewarding experiences, I have met some amazing dancers and also made some close friends that I will have for life. .
I was so lucky to be apart of such a great dance community growing up, and I now thank my parents for all their dedication, and giving me the opportunity to have had this.
We love Peninsula School of Dance. The teachers are wonderful, my daughters are gaining so much confidence and feel so welcomed, we are so lucky to be a part of the PSD family.Kathy Marsh

My daughter doesn’t just dance at PSD – she is nurtured, celebrated and inspired. As a parent I can ask for no other greater extracurricular activity for my child, and as a mum who is new to the dance scene I have come to truly value the creativity and connection of the PSD teachers and other students. We get great value for money, my child is encouraged to express herself and kept busy, and our family is a part of a very community-minded business who wears its heart on its sleeve. PSD is the peninsula’s most glittering gem for kids who want to dance!Andrea Rowe
